JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, August 2, 2014) Jefferson’s Luke Westenberg led every lap of the Benninger Concrete 50 lap Late Model feature en route claiming the victory. The win marked Westenberg’s first of the season at Wisconsin’s Action Track.

Starting outside Kyle Smith on the front row, Westenberg grabbed control at the completion of lap one. Smith fell back into a battle with Tory Bagley for second with Zack Riddle and Brandon Pendleton fighting for fourth behind them. Bagley earned the second spot just before the first of three cautions waved on lap 11 when point leader Dale Nottestad spun in turns one and two. On the restart, Smith and Riddle began to race eachother for the third spot. Contact between the two resulted in Smith making very hard contact with the turn four wall to bring out the second caution and end his evening. Westenberg restarted as the leader once again with Bagley on his bumper in second and Pendleton now in third. The leaders raced single file for several laps while Chris Quam made his way up to third on lap 33. Contact between Pendleton and Shaun Scheel on lap 37 forced the third and final caution when Scheel spun in turns three and four. As racing resumed, Bagley took a shot at a pass for the lead as he dove under Westenberg entering turn one. Bagley couldn’t make the move stick allowing Westenberg to reclaim sole possession of the top spot while Quam moved up to challenge for second. Bagley got loose on lap 38 allowing Quam and Casey Johnson to slip past for second and third. Johnson began to challenge Quam for second, eventually taking the position with three laps remaining. But Westenberg stayed strong on the point to see the checkers first for the win. Johnson was second followed by Quam, Bagley and Trent Erdman.

Jefferson’s Terry Wangsness got to the front of the 30 lap Sportsman feature early and raced off to get the win. Mike Storkson and Peter Gillis battled for the lead until Storkson took command on lap three with Wangsness in tow for second. Wangsness dropped to the low side and drew even with Storkson on lap six while Jason Thoma watched from third. Wangsness moved out front on lap seven when Storkson got loose and fell back into a battle with Thoma for second. Thoma took the spot on lap ten with Mark Deporter in his tracks for third. After a caution on lap 14, Wangsness continued to show the way with Thoma and Deporter right behind. The top three broke away from the rest of the pack as the laps wound down, but Wangsness had the group covered as he cruised to the checkers for the win. Deporter nipped Thoma in the closing laps for second with Tony Ciano and Storkson rounding out the top five.

Seth Reamer of Waupun charged to the front of the International field to capture the 20 lap feature victory. Keith Bell led lap one with Merek Pankow pulling up behind him in second. Pankow drew even with Bell on lap four while Reamer and Joe Cross fought for third behind them. On lap five, Reamer continued forward into the three wide fight for first. Bell and Reamer emerged side by side until a caution on lap six slowed the pace. Bell and Reamer led the field back to green with Reamer rifling out into the lead on the restart. Cross followed into second with Chris Chenoweth behind him in third. Chenoweth got by Cross for second on lap ten, but Reamer was already enjoying a large advantage. The top two separated themselves from the pack with Reamer leading the way. Reamer cruised to the stripe for the win followed by Chenoweth, Cross, Jason Uttech and Bell.

Cody Buchs of Mazomanie grabbed the win in the 25 lap Hobby Stock feature event. Jared Vike led lap one from the outside of the front row. Jeff LeFave and Dylan Buckingham battle for second behind them with Buckingham taking the spot on lap three. Buckingham dove to the low side of Vike on lap four and claimed the lead a lap later. Buchs followed in to second on lap six and began to challenge the new leader immediately. Buchs drew even with Buckingham on lap nine, taking command of the point one lap later. Buchs began to open up a healthy advantage over the field with Buckingham trying to stick close. But Buchs remained in control all the way to the checkers with Buckingham, Bobby Selsing Jr, Lucas Buckingham and Dustin Ward following him across the line to complete the top five.

Jefferson’s Chris Gottschalk claimed the 20 lap Road Warrior feature race. Jeff LeFave led early with Scott Hoeft and Chad Olds battling for second behind him. Craig Henning and Hoeft made contact on lap four resulting in Hoeft coming to a stop on the backstretch for force the first of two cautions. LeFave led the field back to green with Olds and Henning following. Henning passed Olds for second on lap five and continued past LeFave a lap later to lead with Gottschalk in his tracks for second. Gottschalk began searching for a lane around the new leader. Gottschalk drove to the high side of Henning as they raced wheel to wheel for first with Bill Sweeney up to third behind them. As the laps ticked away, Henning and Gottschalk each tried to gain enough momentum to take control. A caution on lap 18 ended the side by side battle with Gottschalk scored as the leader on the restart. Gottschalk stayed out front for the final two circuits with Sweeney nipping Henning for second. Bill Reynolds was fourth with Kenny Storkson coming home in fifth.

Trent Rueth of Jefferson claimed the 20 lap Bandit feature event. Noah Pankow and Adam Schook fought for control from the front row with Schook eventually taking the lead on lap three. Pankow tried to fight back on the high side while the battle for third raged behind him. Keith Erickson slipped under Schook on lap five as they battled three wide for the lead down the backstretch. Pankow was the odd man out as Erickson and Schook emerged door to door with Rueth looking to split the difference. Rueth drove right up the middle to fire into the lead on lap seven. Erickson moved into second on lap nine, but Rueth had the field covered to pick up the win. Erickson was second followed by Nick Schmidt, Schook and Josh Marx.
