2017 Racing Season Upon Us
JEFFERSON, WI (Thursday, April 20, 2017) As the temps begin to rise and the days continue to get longer, it can only mean one thing…..racing season is upon us! The 66th season of racing at Wisconsin’s Action Track is mere days away. Are you ready for the rumble of engines to return? Are you prepared for the side by side racing action that Jefferson Speedway provides each Saturday throughout the summer and fall? Are you eager to see the battles unfold on the track and in the point standings as drivers from all over the area try to stake their claim to a championship?
The 2017 season schedule provides a glimpse into what promises to be a fun filled season of racing and entertainment with a wide array of divisions and series trying to tackle the tricky quarter mile. The season kicks off on Saturday, April 29, with a full schedule of Late Models, Sportsmen, Internationals, Hobby Stocks, Road Warriors and Bandits. The Legends and Bandoleros will also hit the asphalt several times throughout the season with the Bandoleros joining the program on opening night. Other dates to make special note of this season include the Tournaments of Destruction, with the first coming on Sunday, May 28. The Tournaments end on September 3 with the World Championships of the TOD. The Badgerland Challenge returns to Jefferson Speedway on Saturday, June 24. This will be round one of the three night event in conjunction with Madison International Speedway and Slinger Speedway.
There will be TWO nights of Super Late Model competition this year as well. The ARCA Midwest Tour returns to Jefferson Speedway for the first time since 2008. That event, including other support divisions, is scheduled for May 27. The TUNDRA Super Late Model Series also returns in 2017 on July 22. The Midwest Truck Series will join TUNDRA in addition to other support divisions. We finish the season September 14-17 with the 37th annual Wisconsin State Championships.
As for the competition, the battles will be hot and heavy all season long. Only three men have captured titles in the Late Model division since 2008. Defending champ, Dale Nottestad of Cambridge, along with Fort Atkinson’s Jason Erickson and Edgerton’s Casey Johnson have led the way over the last nine seasons with each driver claiming three Late Model crowns. Will their domination continue? Or will someone else step up to unseat them? The Sportsman division is shaping up to be highly competitive with several drivers looking to unseat two time defending champ, Jay Kalbus of Watertown.
Each division brings something unique and entertaining every single week. How will it all shake out? Who will lay claim to feature wins and championship glory? There’s only one way to find out. Be there to see every exciting lap unfold in 2017.
The season kicks off on April 29 as the gates open at 2pm. Time trails get underway at 5pm with the first green flag at 7pm sharp. Jefferson Speedway is located halfway between Jefferson and Cambridge on Hwy 18. Please visit us on Facebook or at jeffersonspeedway.com for more information.
