Haseleu Wins ASA Midwest Tour Race at Jefferson Speedway

CAMBRIDGE, WI (May 19, 2007) – Super Late Model racing returned to Jefferson Speedway Saturday night as the stars of the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment took on the local heroes of the quarter-mile asphalt oval in the running of the Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota.

Nathan Haseleu of Marshall finished out what he started at Elko Speedway three weeks prior, taking the checkers in the Jefferson 100. Haseleu had been leading with 10 laps remaining in the Elko 125 when he suffered ignition troubles, ending his night just shy of victory. Haseleu’s win brought his hometown crowd to its feet rooting for his feat.

Intermittent rain showers didn’t deter forty of the nation’s top Super Late Model drivers and a full-house crowd from heading out to Jefferson Speedway to put on an amazing show in the Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota of Madison. The feature field started 26 cars. Sponsors Echo, Kwik Trip, and Scag Power Equipment greeted fans with displays in the pedestrian mall inside Speedway grounds with free product samples and actual power tools for people to handle and learn about. The full-house crowd and packed pit area further demonstrate the ASA Midwest Tour is going to be a hit this season and beyond.

The top sixteen in qualifying were locked into the show, and the top fourteen were inverted based on a dice roll plus eight. The inversion put Russ Blakely and Bryan Roach on the front row and fast time “Blow Your Competition Away” award winner Dan Lensing on the outside of the seventh row.

The Kwik Trip Touring Stars were fan favorites at Jefferson Speedway. Dan Fredrickson (Elko, MN), Josh Vadnais (White Bear Lake, MN), Donny Reuvers (Dundas, MN), Bryan Roach (Minneapolis, MN), Kenny Richards (Montello), Nathan Haseleu (Marshall), Rod Wheeler (Appleton), Brad “JJ” Mueller (Random Lake), Dave Feiler (Sun Prairie), Travis Sauter (Necedah), Collin Bamke (Slinger), Kris Kelly (Norway, MI), and Jamie Iverson (Escanaba, MI) took part in a pre-race autograph session before opening ceremonies and a long line of fans gathered to get posters and other memorabilia signed by the top Super Late Model drivers of today.

Local hero Rich Bickle also participated in the Jefferson 100 and was involved in a wreck at the green flag that took out half of the field, ending his night before the main event had a single lap in after a preliminary race win earlier in the evening. Bickle has competed in the top-tier of NASCAR on and off since 1989 and was runner up to the Craftsman Truck Series championship in 1997.

Super Late Models are 500+ horsepower fully fabricated tubular frame specially engineered racecars that can make a lap around Jefferson Speedway in less than 13.9 seconds.

Jefferson Speedway is a progressive banked quarter-mile located between Jefferson and Cambridge in South Central Wisconsin along US Highway 18. The facility hosts Limited Late Model, Sportsman, Hobby Stock, International, and 4-Cylinder Bandit divisions Saturday nights through mid-September.
