Breunig Sweeps Twin 35’s at Jefferson Speedway!

June 19, 2004; Jefferson, Wis. – Randy Breunig of Columbus finished first, in both, of the “Goodyear Twin 35’s,” claiming overall top honors in the Late Model division.

Starting on the outside of the fourth row, in the first of the Twins, Breunig headed toward the front as Dylan Schuyler drove to the early lead. Schuyler led the way for 34 laps, before being tagged, in turn 3 on the final lap, triggering a melee, that collected much of the field. When the smoke and dust settled, Breunig was scored in the top spot, followed by Tim Noble, Scott Riedner, Kyle Jarlsberg and Jason Thoma.

Following the invert from the finish of the first feature, Breunig was lined up in the tenth spot, for the second race. At the green flag Chris Quam grabbed the early lead. Quam yielded the point, to Ken Olson’s charge, on lap 12. Olson guided the field until lap 30, as Breunig moved forward through the field. Moving to the inside, Breunig closed with Olson. Battling side-by-site, from lap 25 on, Breunig edged ahead on lap 31. At the stripe it was Breunig for the win, followed by Olson, Dan Chesmore, John Ovadal Jr and Quam.

Rounding out the top 5, in the overall standings for the “Twin 35’s,” were Noble, Olson, Ovadal and Quam.
In International action, Aaron rude claimed victory, in the 20 lap main event. Starting from the inside of row 6, Rude began his charge to the front, as Allen Petrie jumped to the early lead. Steve Allman relieved Petrie at the point, on lap 13, with Rude right behind, for second. Rude moved to the outside, on lap 18, and made the winning pass, on lap 19. As the streaked past the checkered flag it was Rude for the win, followed by Allman, Petrie, Scotty Hoeft and Tim Seitz.

In Sportsman action Ryan Goldade of Stoughton claimed his first feature win, in the 30 lap charge for the checkers. Starting eighth in the field, Goldade watched as Jody Purdy pulled ahead at the green. Luke Padfield drove to the point on lap 30, only to hand it back to Purdy on lap 21. As Purdy pulled ahead, Goldade moved to the inside, working his way under Purdy on lap 27. At the stripe it was Goldade for the win, followed by Mark Deporter, Purdy, Tom Reents and Padfield.

In Hobby Stock action, Rick Kehoe of Jefferson notched the top spot, in the 20 lap main. Starting from the inside of row 3, Kehoe began his trek to the front, as Russ Nicholson claimed the early lead. Nicholson lost the top spot, to Jim Williams, on lap 4. By lap 7, Kehoe closed with the leaders, making the winning pass on lap 12. At the stripe it was Kehoe for the win, followed by Jesse Ayers, Eaan Carson, Williams and Larry Moen.

In Bandit division action Bill Sweeney of Janesville notched his 6th win of the year. Starting from the 13th spot, Sweeney motored past Brandon Kozak for the lead, on lap 10. At the finish it was Sweeney for the win, followed by Rory Padfield, Kozak, Jody Krueger and Troy Yohn.

Next week at Jefferson Speedway, Smith Motors presents the Mid-Season Championships, with a 50 lap Late Model feature, and extended features in all divisions.

Gates open at 2:30PM, Qualifying at 4:30PM and racing starts at 7:00PM sharp.

Jefferson Speedway is half way between Jefferson and Cambridge Wisconsin, on Highway 18.
