Carlson Grabs Big 8 Preview Feature at Jefferson

Friday, September 15, 2006 (Jefferson, WI) – Ryan Carlson took home the 35-lap Big 8 Series Preview Feature at the Jefferson Speedway. It was the first of two nights of racing at Wisconsin’s Action Track as part of its 26th Annual Pepsi Wisconsin State Championship.

Carlson started third in the event which featured the 18 cars that have already qualified for the Twin 50-lap feature event on Saturday night.

Jason Dunn was the early leader after a great side-by-side battle in the early going with Luke Westenberg. Dunn pulled out to the top spot by lap 3.

On lap 11, Carlson got on the inside of Dunn and the two raced side-by-side until Carlson pulled away on lap 17. Steve Dobratz moved from his eighth starting position to second by lap 18.

Dobratz wouldn’t have anything for Carlson as he would go on to the checkered flag. Dunn would hold on to third while current Big 8 Series point leader Jeremy Miller would come home fourth. Kyle Jarlsburg would round out the top five.

John Ovadal Jr. took the lead from Jerry Eckhardt and held off a late challenge from Jason Schuler and Ricky Bilderback to take home the 15-lap Race of Champions.

Kyle Jarlsburg and Ryan Carlson each took home qualifying dash wins.

Rob Braun and Roger Behlke finished first and second in the first qualifying race and Curt Thompson and Mike Ehde were the top-two in the second to earn starting positions in Saturday’s Twin 50-lap feature event.

Mark English and Michael Kruschke finished first and second in the pre-qualifying heat to advance to compete in the qualifying heats.

Jason Erickson led qualifying with a time of 14.142 seconds (63.640 mph).

Four more positions will still be filled for the Twin 50’s along with two promoter choices to fill the 24-car field for the main event on Saturday night.

The second day of racing will begin at 6:00 p.m. with last chance races and features for all of the divisions. The highlight will be a Twin-50 lap feature event for the Big 8 Series. The gates open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with practice beginning at 3:00 p.m.
