Carson Phillips Captures his first feature win in the Joas Painting 50 - June 15, 2024
Late Models
Edgerton pilot, Carson Phillips, captured his first career Late Model feature win on Saturday evening at Wisconsin’s Action Track. Phillips grabbed control of the 18 car field just past the halfway point of the Joas Painting 50 lap main event and drove away to secure the victory.
Chris Flairty and Seth Reamer paced the field to green as the duo waged an intense battle to kick off the 50 lap feature. After jockeying for position for the opening eight laps, Flairty cleared for the lead on the backstretch with Phillips moving alongside Reamer to challenge for second. Phillips moved by Reamer on lap 11 as the top five lined up single file. On lap 16, Jevin Guralski made the pass on Reamer to claim third with Laney Osborne in tow for fourth. By lap 25, Phillips had begun applying pressure to Flairty at the front of the field.
Phillips peeked to the low side of the leader, drawing even with Flairty on lap 28. The side by side racing at the front allowed Guralski and Osborne to close the gap as the front of the field tightened up. After a two lap shootout, Phillips made the pass for the lead, clearing on lap 30. Guralski followed underneath Flairty, taking away the second spot on lap 32. Osborne followed into third while Phillips began to pull away slightly. With ten laps to go, the leaders began to encounter lapped traffic, but Phillips remained undeterred out front on his way to the checkers for his first Late Model feature win. Guralski was second followed by Osborne. Perhaps the battle of race occurred between Michael Grueneberg and Shaun Scheel. After fighting for the better part of the event, Grueneberg managed to claim fourth over Scheel in fifth.

Sportsman
Chris Jones of South Beloit, IL, claimed the 35 lap Sportsman feature event. Sean Eurick grabbed the early lead on lap one from the outside front row. Eurick immediately opened up a healthy advantage while Jones moved up to battle pole sitter, Paul Johnson Jr. Jones made the pass on lap six as he joined Eurick to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Jones spent the next 15 laps chasing Eurick and trying to close the gap between the two machines. On lap 21, Jones began looking to the low side of the leader. A lap later, the pair of drivers were door to door racing for the top spot. After a good battle, Jones moved ahead, clearing for the lead as they raced into turn one on lap 30. Jones raced away from Eurick to close out the event, taking the checkers with Eurick, Kyle Chwala, Nick Bruley and Jason Thoma rounding out the top five.

Hobby Stock
The 30 lap Hobby Stock feature race saw defending track champ, Robbie Rucks of Deerfield, claim the win. Shane Strothman and Steve Dobbratz brought the field to green as they fought for control. Strothman moved out front alone on lap four with Chester Williams in tow for second. Williams quickly went after the leader, stealing the top spot away from Strothman on lap seven. Rucks followed under Strothman for second on lap ten. Rucks pulled up behind Williams, searching for an avenue to the lead. Rucks took to the high side, drawing even with Williams on lap 16. Rucks began inching ahead lap after lap, taking over the point on lap 21. Jim Tate Jr drew in behind Williams in third as the leaders lined up single file. A caution slowed the pace on lap 24, setting up a six lap sprint to the finish. Rucks and Williams led the pack back to racing as Rucks reclaimed the lead on the restart. Tate moved up next to Williams in a battle for the runner up spot. Rucks flew past the checkers to claim the win with Williams nipping Tate at the stripe for second. Waylon Robinson and Tony Ciano completed the top five.
Robbie Rucks #5 Hobby Stock Feature Winner
International
Jefferson’s Weston Strese claimed the 20 lap International feature event. Devon Dixon led early from the front row. An early caution flew on lap two as Mark English lost a wheel while battling for the second spot. Dixon reclaimed the lead on the restart with Kyle Stark quickly up to second. Strese moved into third as Stark launched his bid for the lead. Stark moved past Dixon on lap eight with Strese in his tracks for second. Blake Nottestad joined the leaders in third on lap ten as the trio began to battle for position. Start maintained the top spot until he began to show issues late in the race. A caution with three laps to go slowed the action, setting up a shootout to the end. Strese and Stark led the field back to green with Nottestad watching from third. As racing resumed, Strese jumped out front with Nottestad following into second. Strese hung on in the final laps to secure the win with Nottestad coming home second. Dixon finished third followed by Stark and Merek Pankow.
Weston Strese #11 International Feature Winner
Legends
A caution filled Legends feature ended with Slinger’s Lincoln Cain standing tall in victory lane. Ethan Ross took the lead on lap one from the pole. After several cautions in the opening laps, Ross managed to keep the lead with Cain and Dillon Schwanbeck up to challenge him. As racing restarted on lap six, Cain fired into the lead with Schwanbeck in tow for second. Cain and Schwanbeck began to pull away from the field as the laps ticked away. After contact with a lapped car on lap 21, Schwanbeck spun on the backstretch to force the final caution of the race. At the checkers, it was Cain followed by Ross, Ryan Laatsch, Travis Rose and Jacob Stark.
