Chesmore Claims 50 Lapper at Jefferson Speedway!

July 17, 2004; Jefferson, Wis. – Dan Chesmore of Janesville outdistanced the field, to claim top honors in the “Kearns Motor Car Company 50.” Starting from the inside of row 6, Chesmore headed toward the front as Chad Reimer claimed the early lead. Reimer guided the way for 32 laps, as Chesmore made his way through traffic.
Chesmore motored past Ron Bishofberger, for 2nd, on lap 31, closing with Reimer. Chesmore claimed the point on lap 33, showing the way to the checkers. At the stripe it was Chesmore for the win, followed by Reimer, Tim Noble, Ron Bishofberger and Scott Nottestad.
In International action Brent Nottestad of Deerfield came from a ninth place start to win the 20 lap feature. Joe Cross took the lead at the green flag, running at the point for 4 laps, before being overtaken by Nottestad. From lap 5 to the finish it was Nottestad at the point, with Steve Allman keeping the pressure on, from the 2nd spot. As they took the checkers it was Nottestad for the win, followed by Allman, Alan Petrie, Chris Nelson and Scotty Hoeft.
In Sportsman division action Chris Schoonover of Janesville was first at the finish, in the 30 lap main. Starting from the outside of the front row Schoonover jumped to the early lead, guiding the field to the checkered flag. Kyle Taylor kept the pressure high, in the early going, before surrendering 2nd to Bret Schmidt. Trent Erdman moved up, to join the battle for the top spot on lap 25, working his way under Schmidt, as Schmidt challenged Schoonover. At the finish it was Schoonover followed by Erdman, Schmidt, Luke Padfield, Ryan Goldade, Taylor and Noel Ramge.
Schoonover failed the post-race technical inspection, handing the win to Fort Atkinson’s Erdman.
In Hobby Stock action, Rick Kehoe of Jefferson placed his mark in the win column, in the 20 lap feature. Starting 10th in the field, Kehoe started his trek to the checkered, as Bryon Grassl claimed the early lead. Kehoe drove to the second spot, on lap 7, setting his sights on Grassl. Catching Grassl on lap 11, Kehoe moved to the inside, and made the winning pass on lap 13. As they flew past the checkered flag it was Kehoe for the win, followed by Grassl, Johnny Robinson, Eaan Carson and Dennis Smith.
In Bandit action John Remsik of Watertown claimed top honors in the 18 lap feature. Starting 7th in the field, Remsik watched as Travis Schneeberg drove to the early lead. Schneeberg surrendered the point, to Kyle Stark, on lap 2, with Stark handing it back to Schneeberg, on lap 6. Stark reclaimed the point on lap 7, with Remsik up to the 4th spot. Remsik motored into the 2nd spot on lap 9, and past Stark on lap 10.
The race was red flagged, at the end of lap 10, when a pair of 42 cars tangled on the front stretch, sending the current point leader Bill Sweeney on his side in the infield. On the restart it was Remsik at the point, guiding the way to the checkered flag. At the finish it was Remsik for the win, followed by Troy Yohn, Stark, Schneeberg and Brandon Kozak.
During intermission Johnny Danger of WJJO claimed the win, in the “WJJO DJ Grudge Match.”
With 149 cars on hand, and 144 qualifying, it was a long night at Jefferson Speedway, but the large crowd was treated to a great night of racing action.
Next week Jefferson Speedway hosts the “Blackhawk 50,” with a 50 lap Late Model feature and a full racing program, in all divisions. Also on tap is the “Trailer Race of Doom,” and the Bandits will be racing.
Gates open at 3:00PM, with qualifying at 5:00PM and racing at 7:00PM sharp.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin, on highway 18.
