Chesmore, Pankow, Ward, Robinson and Sweeney Victorious at Jefferson Speedway!

May 17, 2003; Jefferson, Wis. –Former track champion, Dan Chesmore of Janesville, drove from the outside of row 3, to victory lane in the 35 lap feature at Jefferson Speedway. Overtaking Chad “Squirt” Stevens, on lap 4, Chesmore motored to the top spot, and never looked back.
At Chesmore guided the field to the checkered flag, Stevens was locked in battled, with Scott Nottestad, for the 2nd spot. The battle lasted until lap 27, when Nottestad captured 2nd, trying to close the gap with Chesmore. As they flew past the checkered flag it was Chesmore for the win, followed by Nottestad, Stevens, Andy Wendt and Ron Bishofberger.
In International action Jim Pankow of Oregon claimed top honors, I the “action packed” 20 lap main event. Starting on the outside of row 3, Pankow claimed the lead, from Pete Seitz on lap 7. Ahead of the mayhem, Pankow showed the way to the checkered flag. At the stripe it was Pankow, notching his 1st International feature win, followed by Chris Quam Scotty Hoeft, Mike Drays and Seitz. The race was slowed by 5 cautions, on lap 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8.
In Sportsman action, Dustin Ward of Beaver Dam motored his way to victory, in the 30 lap feature. Starting from the outside of row 2, Ward quickly moved to 2nd, behind Mark English. English led the way for 17 laps before Ward found his way to the inside, and past, on lap 18. As Ward pulled to the lead, Trent Erdman was fighting his way, from the rear of the field, to the 2nd spot. At the finish it was Ward for the win, followed by Erdman, Dave Oswald, Jason Thoma and James Helmer.
In Hobby Stock action Orfordville’s Jimmy Robinson III, led flag to flag, in the 20 lap main event. Paul Edmundson made his way from 7th to 2nd by lap 14, closing with Robinson. The pair battled side by side, over the closing 4 lap, with Robinson edging Edmundson, by inches, at the checkered flag. Rounding out the top 5 were Jim Tate, Ken Au and Johnny Robinson.
In Bandit action Bill Sweeney of Janesville powered from 5th to first, in the 18 lap feature. Starting from the inside of row 3, Sweeney headed toward the front as Paula Seitz pulled to the early lead. Seitz surrendered the point to Keith Bell, on lap 5, and Bell, in turn, turned the point over to Sweeney on lap 10. At the stripe it was Sweeney for the win, followed by Bell, Tim Seitz, Paula Seitz and Brian Paulson.
Next week at Jefferson Speedway it’s the Mountain Dew 50, on Saturday night, with a full racing program in all 5 divisions, followed by One on one Street drags, for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars. Gates open at 3:00, Qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 7:00 sharp.
Next Sunday night will see the first Tournament of Destruction, of the 2003 season, an action packed night of automotive mayhem, guaranteed to thrill kids, of all ages.
Jefferson Speedway is on highway 18, half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin.
