Dobbratz Victorious at Jefferson Speedway

August 25, 2007; Jefferson WI — Steve Dobbratz of Rio claimed top honors in the “PaPa Murphy’s 50” Late Model feature. Starting outside row 6, Dobbratz headed to the front as Scott Lindsay grabbed the early lead. Lindsay was relieved, at the point, by Jasper Gronert on the 2nd circuit. Caution came, on lap 14, for a spin in turn 4.
Gronert led the restart with Dobbratz up to the 5th spot. Dobbratz battled his way past Roger Behlke, for 4th, by lap 34, and past Lindsay for 3rd by lap 36. Making his way under Jerry Eckhardt, for 2nd, by lap 40, Dobbratz closed with Gronert. Moving to the inside, on lap 46, Dobbratz launched his bid for the top spot. The battle ended, on lap 48 when Gronert spun, in turn 2. Dobbratz led the restart and the final laps. At the stripe it was Dobbratz for the win followed by Eckhardt, Doug Hahn, Behlke and Lindsay. Dylan Schuyler won the “Pernat’s Meats – Winners Circle Challenge” race for the Late Models.
In Sportsman action Dave Oswald of Cottage Grove notched another win, in the 30 lap main event. Starting 12th Oswald began his journey to the checkers as R.C. Van Ransull claimed the early lead. Van Ransull guided the way for 18 laps as Oswald worked his way forward. Oswald claimed the 5tyh spot boy lap 15, and 3rd by lap 16. Motoring under Van Ransull, on lap 19, Oswald took over the lead. As Oswald pulled ahead, Van Ransull found himself locked in a battled for 2nd with Scott Riedner. As they flew past the checkered flag it was Oswald for the win followed by Van Ransull, Riedner, Ryan Oldenhoff and Luke Padfield.
Oswald also notched the win, in the “Winners Circle Challenge” for the Sportsman division.
In International action Kyle Smith of Lake Mills drove to victory in the 20 lap feature. Starting outside row 3, Smith started his drive to the checkered as Mike Bingham grabbed the early lead. Bingham showed the way for 18 laps as Smith battled through traffic. By the time Smith motored past Mike Winters, into 2nd, on lap 11, Bingham, had opened a lead of, nearly, a quarter lap. Smith closed the gap, motoring past Bingham as they came to the white flag. At the stripe it was Smith for the win followed by Bingham, Casey Strese, Winters and ken Au.
Smith claimed victory in the “Winners Circle Challenge” for the International class.
In Hobby Stock action Jim Robinson of Orfordville notched the win, in the 25 lap main event. Starting 4th, Robinson headed to the front as Roger Stephenson took the early lead. Robinson claimed the 2nd spot on lap 17 closing with Stephenson. As Robinson moved to the inside of Stephenson, on lap 19, Stephenson fell off the pace, surrendering the point. A blown engine, on lap 20, lubricated the racing surface, collecting several cars between turns 3 and 4. Robinson led the restart, guiding the way to the checkers. At the finish it was Robinson for the win followed by Larry Moen, Bobby Selsing, Mike Storkson and Jim Tate.
Jim Tate Jr. claimed victory in the Hobby Stock “Winners Circle Challenge”.
In Bandit action Gary Stark of Waunakee claimed top honors in the 20 lap feature. Starting inside row 7 Stark headed toward the front as Zak Czeszynski grabbed the early lead. Czeszynski led 4 laps before losing the point to Steven Scheel. Sean Watters took the lead, from Scheel, on lap 15, with Stark close behind. Stark drove around Watters for the lead on lap 18, showing the way from there to the checkered. At the finish it was Stark for the win followed by Kyle Watters, Scheel, Sean Watters and Kenny Christenson.
Stark was victorious in the “Winners Circle Challenge” for the bandits.
Next week Jefferson Speedway hosts the Labor Day Special, featuring the “Petrie Family Twin 35’s” with twin, 35 lap, Late Model features and a full racing program, in all divisions.
Gates open at 3:00PM, qualifying starts at 5:00PM and racing commences at 7:00PM sharp.
Next Sunday, September 2, is the final “Tournament of Destruction” of the 2007 season.
Gates open at 4:00PM and the mayhem begins at 7:00PM.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Jefferson and Cambridge Wisconsin, on Highway 18.
