Erickson Leads Qualifying at Jefferson
Friday, September 16, 2005 (Jefferson, WI) – Jason Erickson’s lap of 14.302 seconds (62.928 mph) captured the fast qualifier award for the Big 8 Series event at the 25th Annual Wisconsin State Championship at the Jefferson Speedway. A total of 44 cars made qualifying attempts.
Current Big 8 Series Point Leader, Mike Beyer along with Tony Bagstad, who is second in points, will have to come through a last chance race on Saturday night to make the Twin 50-lap main event.
Dylan Schuyler and Jerry Gille picked up heat wins for the 14 drivers already locked into the main event. Ken Piotrowski and Mike Taylor advanced from the Pre-Qualifier event to compete in one of two Qualifiers. Kyle Jarlsburg, Greg Bowers, Noel Ramge and Tony Koepke advanced from the qualifiers to the main event.
The fans were treated to a “Race of Champions.” This 15-lap event was won by long-time racing veteran, Jerry Echardt.
The “Preview Feature” gave the fans a taste of what they will see tonight. The 35-lap event featured the cars that have already earned a starting position for tonight’s Twin 50-lap event.
Jon Ovadahl Jr. got past Mike Lloyd on lap 17 to take home the win. Erickson came home second with Jon Reynolds Jr. third. Mike Ehde and Ryan Carlson rounded out the top five.
Racing action will start at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night. Jefferson Speedway is located off of Hwy. 18 between Cambridge and Jefferson.
