Erickson Wins Bumper to Bumper 50 at Jefferson Speedway!

June 11, 2005; Jefferson, Wis. -Jason Erickson of Lake Mills claimed top honors in the “Bumper to Bumper 50,” leading the final 23 laps. Starting 10th, Erickson headed toward the front, as Noel Ramge claimed the early lead. Ramge surrendered the point to Tony Koepke, on lap 2. Caution flew, on lap 6, for a spin in the first turn. Erickson was running 8th on the restart, moving up to the 6th spot by lap 12, when a pair of cars tangled in turn 4, bringing out the 2nd caution.
Erickson moved forward, 1 car at a time, making his way to 2nd before the 3rd caution, on lap 23. On the restart Erickson moved to the inside of Koepke, launching his bid for the lead. Koepke held on for 4 laps, with Erickson inching further forward on each lap, to make the winning pass on lap 27. Erickson’s drive to the checkers was interrupted by 3 more cautions the first on lap 28 and the 2nd and 3rd on lap 35. At the stripe it was Erickson by a quarter lap over Koepke followed by Ken Olson, Chris Quam and Doug Hahn.
In International action Mark English claimed top honors in the 15 lap feature. Starting outside row 3, English started toward the front as Brandon Kozak claimed the early lead. English motored to the 2nd spot by lap 3, closing with Kozak. Following a 3 lap battle, English claimed the point, guiding the way to the checkered flag. At the stripe it was English followed by Mark Joyner, Chris Nelson, Kozak and Scotty Hoeft.
In Sportsman division action Trent Erdman, of Ft. Atkinson, drove from an 18th place start, to claim top honors in the 30 lap main event. At the green flag Larry Moen pulled to the early lead. Moen showed the way for 21 laps, as Erdman wound his way through traffic. Erdman claimed the 3rd spot on lap 17, setting his sights on the leaders. As Erdman made his way to 3rd on lap 20, the 2nd place car of Kyle Taylor went up in Smoke, oiling the track and bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart Erdman closed with Moen, making the winning pass on lap 22. Caution came, again, on lap 23 when Moen got into the loose stuff rounding turn 4, sending him into the wall. Erdman guided the field from the restart to the checkers holding off the charge of Jason Thoma. At the stripe it was Erdman for the win followed by Thoma, Luke Padfield, Curt Thompson and Scott “Chico” Riedner.
In Hobby Stock action Ken Au of Jefferson notched the win, in the 20 lap feature. Starting inside row 4, Au started his journey to the checkers, as Ryan Oldenhoff pulled to the early lead. Au made his way to the 3rd spot, by lap 8, as Oldenhoff battled side-by-side with Dennis Schmidt for the point. The battle was interrupted by the yellow flag, when a car slammed the wall coming out of turn 4 on the 9th circuit. On the restart Au motored past Schmidt, into the 2nd spot, closing with Oldenhoff. After a 4 lap battle, Au made the winning pass on lap 14, leading the way to the finish. At the stripe it was Au for the win, followed by Eaan Carson, Oldenhoff, Dennis Schmidt and Jim Tate Jr.
In Bandit action John Remsik claimed top honors, in the 18 lap feature. Starting outside row 3 Remsik headed for the front as Kyle Riedner jumped to the early lead. Remsik made his way to 2nd by lap 5, looked for a way past Riedner. Riedner held on all the way to the white flag, as Remsik looked for an opening. Moving to the inside, on the final lap, Remsik was first at the stripe, followed by Troy Yohn, Kyle Riedner, Brandon Riedner and Tom Bleecker.
Next week at Jefferson Speedway it’s the final round of the “Summer Rumble,” featuring the “Papa Murphy’s 50,” 50 lap Late Model feature. Round one is at Columbus 151 Speedway, on Friday Night.
Gates open at 2:00, Qualifying at 4:30 and racing starts at 7:00 sharp.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin on Highway 18.
