Jarlsberg Battles to Win at Jefferson Speedway
By Andrew Schaller
JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, June 12, 2010) Jefferson’s Kyle Jarlsberg captured his first feature of the 2010 season in exciting fashion as he crossed the stripe sideways to win the Jefferson Window and Door 50 lap Late Model feature. Jarlsberg and Bob Kahler waged a very intense battle over the final 20 laps ending with Jarlsberg in victory lane.
Trent Erdman and Brandon Pendleton paced the field to green with Pendleton taking the early lead entering turn three on the opening lap. Erdman fell in line behind for second as Kahler charged into fourth. Kahler found his way to third with Steve Dobbratz in tow just as the first of three cautions waved on lap 12. On the restart, Kahler motored past Erdman for second and set his sights on Pendleton. On lap 16, Kahler got under the leader, clearing for the top spot two laps later. Meanwhile, Jarlsberg moved up to third on lap 21. After a brief caution on lap 25, Jarlsberg got around Pendleton for second and moved up to challenge Kahler for the lead. After the final caution on lap 29, Jarlsberg made his move. On the restart, Jarlsberg dove under Kahler through turns one and two, pulling even as they fought for the lead. The pair of competitors battled side by side over the final laps, trading paint and not giving an inch. As they exited turn four on the final circuit, they made heavy contact sending both cars sideways as they crossed under the checkers. Jarlsberg shot across the stripe first with Kahler second. Rounding out the top five were Dobbratz, Casey Johnson and Dylan Schuyler.
Scott Riedner of Waunakee captured quick time as well as the 30 lap Sportsman feature event. Mike Acheson grabbed the initial lead from the outside of the front row on lap one. Mike Winters moved up to second and began to pressure Acheson for the point. After a brief battle, Winters fell back in line behind Acheson as Tom Reents moved up to third and began working on Winters for second. Reents cleared for second on lap 16 just as the first of three cautions waved slowing the field. On the restart, Reents dove under Acheson looking to lead. But the pair made contact, sending Acheson spinning and bringing out the second caution. Both drivers were forced to restart from the rear, handing the lead to Riedner. As the green returned, Riedner drove away from the pack on his way to the win. Jason Dunn finished second followed by Bret Schmidt, Winters and Adam Bleskan.
Eric Connell of Fort Atkinson dominated all 20 laps of the International feature to get the win in the event. Starting from the outside of the front row, Connell took control on lap one with Neil Higgins moving up to second. Higgins remained in Connell’s tracks for the entire race while Gary Stark made his way to third. Connell led every lap of the caution free event on his way to victory lane for the win. Higgins was second followed by Stark, Ashley Smith and Chris Gottschalk.
In Hobby Stock action, Johnny Robinson of Beloit charged to the front of the field and drove off to get the win in the 25 lap feature event. Chester Williams was the early leader from the pole with Kyle Stark right behind in second. On lap five, Robinson shot past Stark into the runner up position and set his sights on Williams for the point. Meanwhile, Dustin Ward made his way into the top five, moving up to third as Robinson dove to the low side of Williams for the lead. Robinson cleared for the top spot on lap eight and immediately began to open up a large lead. Ward found his way to second past Williams on lap 15 and began to run down the leader. A late caution on lap 22 closed up the leaders for the restart, but Robinson hung on to the lead to cross under the checkers first for the win. Ward was second with Jim Tate, Zack Schmidt and Steven Sauer rounding out the top five.
Bill Reynolds claimed yet another Road Warrior feature after winning the 10 lap main event. Brett Carson took the early lead on lap one with Reynolds moving up to second. On lap two, Reynolds moved to the inside of Carson, pulling even with the leader. After a two lap battle, Reynolds grabbed sole possession of the point through turns one and two. Reynolds cruised to the stripe for the win followed by Carson and Roger Stephenson.
Janesville’s Devon Dixon took the lead early in the 20 lap Bandit feature and never looked back on his way to the win. Jacob Balk took the lead on lap one with Dixon right behind for second. On lap two, Dixon shot past Balk to take the lead just before caution slowed the field. After the restart, Jeff LeFave began to pick his way through the top five using the high line. LeFave moved into second on lap seven as he tried to catch the leader, Dixon. Another caution on lap ten allowed LeFave to close up on Dixon’s rear bumper for the restart. But Dixon held strong at the point as he saw the checkers first for the win. Rounding out the top five were LeFave, Phil Wuesthoff, Heather Stark and Kevin Pauls.
