Jarlsberg claims Settler’s Bay 50 at Jefferson Speedway!

September 4, 1999; Jefferson, WI. – Jim Jarlsberg of Cambridge claimed top honors in the Settler’s Bay 50 lap Late Model feature, at Jefferson Speedway. Starting from the inside of row 5, Jarlsberg started the long drive to the front as Jasper Gronert of Jefferson pulled out to the early lead. Gronert held the point for 20 laps, as Jarlsberg patiently worked his way to the front. Looking to the inside on lap 19, Jarlsberg made the sinning pass on lap 21, guiding the field from there to the checkered flag.

As Jarlsberg opened up a healthy lead, Ron Bishofberger of Ft. Atkinson made his way to 3rd, by lap 32, challenging Gronert for 2nd. Bishofberger claimed 2nd on lap 33, looking a long way ahead to Jarlsberg. The first, 2nd and 3rd cautions of the race came on lap 45. The battle for 4th resulted in two cars tangling in the 4th turn, hooking together and plowing through the infield to bring the first caution.

On the first restart Andy Wendt of Watertown found himself in a position where he could either hit a car going into the corner or spin and avoid the contact. Wendt chose the spin and the caution came out again. Several cars tangled, coming off the 2nd turn, on the second attempt at a restart. Jarlsberg led the field back to green following the 3rd, and final, restart ticking off the final 5 laps on his way to victory. At the stripe it was Jarlsberg for the win followed by Bishofberger, Eric Gerlach of Palmyra, Scott Null of Lake Mills and Denny Stair of Sullivan.

Roger Behlke of Jefferson set the fast qualifying pace, with a 14.813 second tour of the quarter mile.

Scott Null of Lake Mills claimed top honors in the 8 lap Dash For Cash.

Claiming victories, in 10 lap heat races, were Eric Connell of Sullivan, Ken Piotrowski of Janesville, Nick Wendt of Watertown and Mike Taylor of Stoughton.

Moving to the Last Chance race, from the 12 lap Consi. were Eric Johnson of Johnson Creek and Terry Morgan of Delafield.

Moving to the feature lineup, via the 20 lap Last Chance race were Ken Olson of Ft. Atkinson, Jim Gleesing of Whitewater, Ken Piotrowski of Janesville and Bart Reinen of Jefferson.

In International Class action Justin Nottestad of Cambridge sailed to another feature win, in the 20 lap main event. Starting from the outside of row 5, Nottestad started his drive to the front, as Scott Uttech of Beaver Dam pulled out to the early lead. The first caution came, on lap 1, for a spin at the front of the field. On the restart it was Uttech at the point with Nottestad up to the 7th spot.

Nottestad moved up to 5th before the 2nd caution came, on lap 3, for a car in the back stretch wall. On the restart Nottestad challenged Chris Quam of Stoughton for the 4th. As Nottestad moved under Quam for the 4th spot, Rick Neerland of Ft. Atkinson moved under Uttech, claiming the lead on lap 6. As Neerland pulled ahead, he found Nottestad close behind, making his bid for the top spot. Nottestad pulled ahead by lap 7, guiding the field to the checkered. At the stripe it was Justin Nottestad for the win, followed by Quam, Scott Nottestad of Cambridge, Darnell Mepham of Ft. Atkinson and Matt Frey of Cambridge.

Scott Nottestad set the mark in qualifying, with a 16.022 second lap.

Claiming victories, in 10 lap heat races, were Mike Drays of Milton and Aaron Rude of Cambridge.

In Sportsman Division action Chad “Squirt” Stevens battled his way to the front of the 25 lap main event. Starting from the inside of row 7, Stevens started the long trek to the point, as Noel Ramge of Hellenville claimed the early lead. Ramge held the point for 14 laps, in the caution free race, before being overtaken by Mark Deporter of Ft. Atkinson. As Deporter pulled to the front, on lap 15, Stevens was up to the 4th spot.

Stevens claimed 2nd, by lap 20, with Dave Oswald of Cottage Grove close behind for the 3rd spot. Stevens moved to the inside of Deporter, on lap 23, claiming the point on lap 24, with Oswald moving up to challenge Deporter for 2nd. At the stripe it was Stevens for the win, followed by Oswald, Deporter, Tony Koepke of Ft. Atkinson, Jeff Kohlhoff of Watertown and Noel Ramge of Hellenville.

Stevens set the fast qualifying pace, with a 15.715 second tour of the quarter mile.

Claiming victories, in 10 lap heat races, were Chris Ehrhart of Deerfield, Roger Stephenson of Cambridge and Jeff Kohlhoff of Watertown.

Moving to the feature lineup, from the 15 lap Last Chance race, were Stephenson, Josh Courtney of Janesville, Ben Hallock of Ft. Atkinson and Ehrhart.

In Hobby Stock action, Dennis Gaserude of Oregon claimed top honors in the 20 lap feature. Starting from the outside of row 6, Gaserude started his drive to the front as Scott Bush of Ft. Atkinson took the early lead. A spin, in turn 1, brought the only caution of the race, on lap 2, with Bush still at the point, and Ron Coppernoll of Dane running 2nd. Launching his bid for the lead, Coppernoll moved under Bush to claim the point on lap 7.

Lincoln Keeser of Milton moved into 2nd on lap 10, closing with Coppernoll. Keeser claimed the top spot on lap 24, only to surrender it a lap later to Gaserude. Gaserude guided the way to the checkered flag with Chuck Egli of Waterloo making his way to 2nd. At the stripe it was Gaserude for the win, followed by Egli, Nick Golich of Hebron, Jason Ayers of Stoughton and Dan Schmidt of Watertown.

Gaserude set the qualifying mark with a 17.240 second loop of the quarter mile.

Claiming victories, in 8 lap heat races, were Randy Strasburg of Jefferson, Ernie Witte of Watertown and Trent Erdman of Ft. Atkinson.

Filling out the feature lineup, from the 8 lap Last Chance Race were Strasburg, Jim Blucher of Madison, Brett Schmidt of Watertown and Jason Thom of Johnson Creek.

Next Week Jefferson Speedway presents the Havill-Spoerl Season championships, with a 75 lap Late Model feature. Feature races, in all other divisions will be extended by 10 laps.

Gates open at 3:30, qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 7:30 sharp.

Jefferson Speedway is located on highway 18, between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin.
