Jarlsberg Claims Third Feature Win
JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, August 03, 2013) Jefferson’s Kyle Jarlsberg charged to the front of the field to pick up his third Late Model feature win of the season, this time claiming the Miller Lite 50 lap main event. While Jarlsberg was on his way to the victory, the battle for the top of the standings in the division was heating up between leader Zack Riddle and his closest pursuer, Dale Nottestad.
Kyle Taylor and Chad Stevens paced the field to the drop of the green flag. Stevens grabbed the initial lead though turns one and two with Brandon Pendleton up to second and Taylor settling into third. After the first of several cautions waved on lap two, Pendleton began to pressure Stevens at the front. Two more quick cautions followed on lap three and four ending with Taylor spinning after contact with Tyler Peterson. Stevens restarted as the leader with Pendleton second and Stephen Scheel now in third. Stevens tried to slip away from the pack while Pendleton and Scheel battled for second. On lap six, Pendleton reclaimed the runner up spot and pulled up behind Stevens on the point. Pendleton pulled to the low side of Stevens, drawing even as they fought for the lead. Pendleton cleared for the top spot on lap ten with Dylan Schuyler trying to follow into second. Schuyler made the pass on lap 14 with Jarlsberg in tow. Jarlsberg quickly went to work on Schuyler, stealing second on lap 19 and setting his sights on Pendleton. At the midway point of the race, the leaders remained spread out with Pendleton showing the way and Jarlsberg trying to close the gap. Jarlsberg found himself on Pendleton’s rear bumper with 15 laps remaining. Jarlsberg dove under Pendleton, clearing a lap later and immediately trying to stretch his lead. Meanwhile, the battle raged for fifth between defending champ Casey Johnson as well as Riddle and Nottestad. Contact between Nottestad and Riddle resulted in Riddle spinning into turn one to bring out the caution with only three laps to go. Both drivers were forced to the rear for the restart with Jarlsberg bringing the field back to green. Jarlsberg hung on over the final circuits to see the checkers first and get the win. Pendleton finished second followed by Chris Quam, Johnson and Schuyler.
In Sportsman action, Mark Deporter of Fort Atkinson got to the front and hung on to win the 25 lap feature event. Matt Lundberg led lap one from the front row with Deporter already up to second. Jason Thoma followed into third with Jim Tate Jr in his tracks for fourth. On lap four, Deporter made his move for the lead, driving under Lundberg into turn one. The duo battled door to door over the next five laps, with Deporter finally grabbing control of the lead on lap nine. Thoma followed his lead into second with Tate continuing behind Thoma. On lap 12, Tate took to the high side of Thoma looking to take away the second spot. Tate claimed second on lap 15 and immediate dropped to the low side to challenge the leader. Tate drew even with Deporter on lap 19 as Thoma watched closely from third. With five laps to go, Tate got loose allowing Deporter to reclaim sole possession of the lead. Deporter hung on over the final laps to cross under the checkers first for the win. Tate settled for second with Thoma, Robert Hansberry and Lundberg rounding out the top five.
Chris Chenoweth of Watertown picked up the victory in the 20 lap International main event. Keith Bell and Dylan Buckingham led the field to green with Buckingham leading lap one. Bell battled back on the high side to lead lap two and take over the point into turn one. Dan Birkett followed into second with Chenoweth in tow for third. Birkett moved up to challenge Bell on lap five, pulling alongside the leader while Chenoweth watched from third. The sole caution of the race slowed the action on lap seven with Birkett scored as the leader and Bell in second. On the restart, Chenoweth made quick work of the Bell to claim second and set his sights on Birkett. Chenoweth slipped under Birkett on lap 11, clearing a lap later and bringing Seth Reamer along for second. Birkett experienced problems on lap 16 and was forced to retire from the event. Chenoweth cruised over the final laps to see the checkers first for the win. Reamer finished second followed by Mike Lambert, Bell and Jamie Shelley.
Jimmy Robinson of Orfordville dominated the 25 lap Hobby Stock feature to pick up his first win of the season. Starting alongside Jim Wolf, Robinson grabbed the early lead on lap one with Wolf dropping to second and Scott Riemer in third. By lap ten, Robinson was already checking out from the field while Wolf tried to hang on to second. Chester Williams joined Wolf as they fought for second while the battle raged behind them for position. But Robinson continued to cruise on his way to the stripe to get the win. Williams won the battle for second followed by Dustin Ward, Bobby Selsing Jr and Tony Ciano.
Jefferson’s Rob Lange got to the front early in the 20 lap Road Warrior feature and hung on to get the win. Jared Larson led early with Rodger Stephenson and Jordan Lamb fighting for second. Lange joined the battle for the runner up spot on lap three as they drove three wide into turn three. Lange and Stephenson emerged side by side with Lange eventually taking over second on lap four. Lange continued forward as he drew even with Larson at the front, clearing through turns three and four on lap five. Chris Gottschalk followed Lange into second on lap eight and began closing on the new leader. Gottschalk caught Lange on lap 11 as he looked to the low side just as the yellow flag waved. As racing resumed, Gottschalk returned to the bottom of the racing surface looking to make the pass for the lead. But Lange held Gottschalk at bay despite one last try on the final lap. Lange took the checkers first with Gottschalk settling for second. Bill Reynolds finished third with Bill Sweeney fourth and Larson in fifth.
Josh Marx of Dousman picked up the win in the Bandit division after a late race pass netted him the lead. Josh Rusch took the initial lead on lap one from the front row with Noah Pankow in second. Marx moved up to third on lap three and continued forward alongside Pankow on lap four. Marx cleared for second just before the caution waved on lap seven. Marx lined up behind Rusch for the restart as he began to challenge for the top spot. Marx drove to the outside of Rusch on lap ten as they raced side by side for the lead. Marx lost grip and fell back in line in second on lap 14. But on the next circuit, Marx got a great run on the low side of Rusch, firing past and into the lead down the backstretch. With four laps to go, Rusch experience problems and he pulled off the racing surface handing second to Brandon DeLacy. But Marx had the field covered as he drove off to the checkers for the win. DeLacy finished second with Nick Schmidt, Pankow and Dennis Wuesthoff rounding out the top five.
