Nottestad Is First Repeat Winner in 2014

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, May 24, 2014) Cambridge’s Dale Nottestad charged to the front of the field to capture the Automatic Transmission Service 50 lap Late Model feature on Saturday night. The win helped Nottestad increase his lead in the point standings as he became the first Late Model pilot to repeat as feature winner in 2014 in Jefferson Speedway’s premier division.

Ty James and Tyler Peterson brought the field to green as they battled side by side on the opening lap. James claimed the point on lap two just before the first of three cautions appeared for the spinning car of Shaun Scheel. Peterson lined up on the bumper of James for the restart with Jerry Eckhardt riding in third. On lap ten, Stephen Scheel got a great run exiting turn two as he fired past Eckhardt and alongside Peterson for second. Scheel cleared for second on lap 13 with Dylan Schuyler following into third. Schuyler immediately began to challenge Scheel for second while James continued to show the way. Schuyler completed the pass for second on lap 17, but Scheel didn’t let him enjoy the pass for long as he charged back alongside Schuyler. All the jostling for position allowed James to open up a healthy advantage. Brandon Pendleton joined the fight for second when he slipped by Schuyler and pulled up behind Scheel with Nottestad riding in his tracks. Nottestad got by Pendleton for third on lap 23 and slid up next to Scheel looking for second. Nottestad took second from Scheel just before the second caution waved on lap 30, closing up the field for the final twenty circuits. After another quick caution on lap 31, Nottestad launched his bid for the top spot as he drove under James down the backstretch on lap 32. Nottestad completed the pass for the lead on lap 33 as he began to check out from the field while the battle for second raged behind him. Pendleton eventually moved into second, but Nottestad was well on his way to the checkers to get his second feature win of the season. Pendleton finished second with Casey Johnson, James and Chris Quam rounding out the top five.

Rookie Sportsman driver Tony Ciano claimed his first win of the season as he claimed the 25 lap feature event. Adam Bleskan led lap one with Ciano already challenging Mike Storkson for second. Ciano claimed the position on lap two with Jay Kalbus following into third. On lap four, Ciano drew even with Bleskan as he looked to lead. Two laps later, Ciano was out front by himself with Kalbus trying to follow into second. Kalbus grabbed second on lap ten with Jason Thoma in tow. Kalbus and Thoma began to fight for the second spot allowing Ciano to open up a big lead. Thoma moved past Kalbus for second on lap 16 and began to close the gap on Ciano at the front. Thoma managed to catch the leader in the closing laps, but ran out of time to make a move as Ciano crossed the stripe first for the win. Thoma was second followed by Steven Sauer, Mark Deporter and Robert Hansberry Jr.

Chris Chenoweth of Watertown claimed victory in the 20 lap International feature event. Jason Uttech and Josh Lenz opened up the action side by side fighting for the lead. Uttech took control of the point on lap four with Merek Pankow following into second. Pankow drove up alongside the early leader on lap five as they fought for the lead. Pankow made the pass on lap eight as Neil Higgins moved to third with Chenoweth on his bumper in fourth. Chenoweth moved around Higgins and drove up next to Uttech on lap 11. Chenoweth cleared Uttech for second on lap 14 as he drove to the outside trying to get by Pankow. Pankow and Chenoweth raced door to door until Chenoweth claimed the top spot exiting turn four on lap 16. Chenoweth cruised over the final laps to grab the win with Pankow holding on to finish second. Rounding out the top five were Seth Reamer, Mike Lambert and Uttech.

In Hobby Stock action, AJ Lloyd of Loves Park, IL, picked up the win in the 25 lap feature event. Jim Wolf led early from the pole with Cody Buchs in second and Lucas Buckingham in third. After an early caution on lap two for a multi-car melee on the backstretch, Buchs drove under Wolf entering turn one. Buchs completed the pass for the lead on lap three bringing Buckingham along for second. Lloyd followed into third as he began to challenge Buckingham for second allowing Buchs to slip away from the pack. Lloyd made it to second on lap 13 with Bobby Selsing Jr in tow for third. Lloyd began to chip away at the large lead Buchs was enjoying with Selsing staying in his rear view mirror. With three laps remaining, Lloyd caught Buchs as he looked to the outside to make the winning pass. Lloyd cleared for the lead coming out of turn four to start the final lap. Lloyd stayed our front to see the checkers first with Selsing nipping Buchs for second. Buckingham was fourth with Chester Williams finishing fifth.

Watertown’s Bill Reynolds claimed the win in the 15 lap Road Warrior feature. Chad Olds led lap one with Bill Sweeney up to second. After a caution on lap three, Sweeney drove under Olds looking to lead. Reynolds joined the fight for first on lap seven as he drove to the low side of the speedway to make it a three wide battle. Reynolds emerged with the top spot on lap eight with Sweeney following into second a lap later. Reynolds stayed out front over the final laps to see the checkers first for the win. Sweeney was second followed by Olds, Rodger Stephenson and Jeff LeFave.

Dousman’s Josh Marx won his second feature in the row by claiming the 15 lap Bandit main event. Adam Schook led lap one from the pole with Dennis Wuesthoff up to second. After an early caution on lap two. Wuesthoff began to challenge Schook as he drove under the early leader on lap three. Meanwhile, Marx was using the high line around the speedway moving through the field. On lap eight, Marx stayed on the high side and pulled even with Wuesthoff and Schook as they fought for the lead. Marx powered into the lead on lap nine and immediately began to open up a large lead. At the checkers, it was Marx for the easy win. Following post-race inspection, Schook was awarded second with Dustin Yanke, Trent Rueth and Brandon DeLacy rounding out the top five.

Next Saturday, May 31, is a full program in all six division highlighted by the Ken Olson’s Used Cars 50 lap Late Model feature. Time trials begin at 5pm with racing at 7pm.
