Null battles to win at Jefferson Speedway!

By Jeanne & Larry Starr

May 6, 2000; Jefferson, WI. – Scott Null of Lake Mills earned a, hard fought, victory in the 35 lapper at Jefferson Speedway. Starting from the outside of row 3, Null started his drive to the point as Russ Goodwin of Beloit pulled out to the early lead. In the second spot by lap 2, Null worked to close the gap with Goodwin.

Moving to the inside, on lap 11, Null made his bid for the lead, with Andy Wendt of Watertown moving up behind in the battle for third. Null and Wendt had claimed the top two spots before the first caution of the race came, on lap 14, when a spin triggered a multi-car crash in the second turn.

On the restart Null and Wendt continued the battle for the top spot, with Null holding only a slight advantage, on many laps. The battle for third was lost in the distance as all eyes were on the leaders. Wendt made several moves to the inside, but was never quite able to get the run he needed. As they flew past the checkered flag it was Null for the win, followed by Wendt, Dan Chesmore of Janesville, Nick Wendt of Watertown and Luke Westenberg of Palmyra.

Oswald was up to the 5th spot by lap 12 with the first caution came, for a blown motor on the front stretch.

On the restart Oswald moved to the inside, claiming the top spot by lap 17 and guiding the field to the checkered flag.
