Racing Recap

Erickson Victorious for a sixth time at the Wisconsin State Championships AT JEFFERSON SPEEDWAY

Late Models

The 1st round of the Wisconsin State Championships definitely lived up to the hype. The prestigious two day event provided numerous storylines to keep fans on the edge of their seats. The Glassworks of Wisconsin, Utica Seed Company, and Wolff Pack Apparel and Promotions sponsored event saw first time winners and veterans rising to the occasion.

Jason Erickson proved to be the king of the Wisconsin State Championships. Erickson claimed his unprecedented 6th Wisconsin State Championship. The Friday feature was won by Clayton Storey. This was Storey’s first ever feature win. Twin features were set for Saturday. Michael Bilderback claimed the first feature on Saturday. Erickson went to victory lane in the finale. The overall top five for the Late Model Wisconsin State Championships were Erickson, Jevin Guralski, Bilderback, Michael Grueneberg, and Carson Phillips.

Sportsman

Kyle Chwala’s consistency was what it took for him to take home his second Wisconsin State Championship in the Sportsman Division. Chwala was victorious in Friday’s feature event. Nick Bruley would sweep both feature events on Saturday. Unofficially, Bruley would be the overall winner. That celebration was short lived. A couple drivers wouldn’t pass post race technical inspection. This resulted in Chwala gaining a couple positions. After the points were recalculated, Chwala was declared Wisconsin State Champion for the Sportsman Division. Bruley would be disappointed with second place overall. Chris Jones, Dave Trute, and Tytus Helgestad rounded out the top five overall.

Hobby Stocks

The Hobby Stock Wisconsin State Championship was a slugfest. Friday’s feature event was dominated by Tony Ciano. Avery Linnerud was victorious in the second feature event. Waylon Robinson flexed his muscle and went to victory lane in the finale. After the points were finalized, Linnerud would claim his first ever Wisconsin State Championship. This capped off a dream season for the 15 year old pilot. He was also Jefferson Speedway’s regular season champion. Ciano would finish second overall, followed by Robinson. Chester Williams and Scott Riedner rounded out the top five.

Midwest Truck Series

The Midwest Truck Series was also on tap for the Wisconsin State Championships. The racing action was red hot both nights. Eugene Gregorich III and Robbie Rucks had a furious battle for the lead during Friday’s feature. Nick Van had the best seat in the house, running in the 3rd position. The leaders would tangle and Van would inherit the lead. Van never looked back and cruised to victory. Saturday’s feature was deja vu as Gregorich and Rucks found themselves battling each other for the win once again. Gregorich was able to do just enough to keep Rucks on the tailgate. Gregorich held off Rucks for the win. Gregorich wasn’t the only one celebrating. Grant Griesbach’s 2nd and 4th place finishes were enough to earn the 1st ever Wisconsin State Championship for the Midwest Truck Series.
