Racing Recap

Erickson Victorious in the Serenity Concepts 50 lapper AT JEFFERSON SPEEDWAY

Late Models

Jefferson Speedway had a rare afternoon show for the Serenity Concepts Season Opener. The racing action was fast and furious throughout the afternoon. The first half of the program went off without a hitch. The program went caution free right up to feature competition. The intense and mostly clean action continued during feature racing. The stars of Jefferson Speedway put a very boisterous crowd on the edge of their seats. The fans roused as fast qualifiers maneuvered their way towards the front of the field. This being a true testament of the quality of cars and drivers at “Wisconsin’s Action Track.”

Once again, The Taylored Construction and Remodeling Late Models didn’t disappoint. Rookie pilot Jordan Lamb and Jefferson Speedway’s youngest female feature winner, Laney Osborne brought the field to green. The young lady would catapult herself to the lead. Drivers began jockeying for position throughout the field. Kurt Kleven and Stephen Scheel were batting for sixth place when contact was made between the two on lap 12. This resulted in Kleven getting turned into the frontstretch wall. Both cars stayed rolling, and the action continued. Kleven would retire from the race one lap later. Laney was in her own area code when Scheel and Lamb would get together and bring out the caution on lap 24. This brought out the first caution in The Serenity Concepts 50 lap main event. Osborne now had company as her and veteran Don Gasrude would pace the drivers back to green. Gasrude would steal the lead away from the young lady. The field would slow again for the spun out Lamb. The veteran driver now had to start side by side with Michael Grueneberg on the restart. Row 2 would be the hard charging drivers of Seth Reamer and Jason Erickson. With 19 laps to go Gasrude would maintain the lead, with Grueneberg and Reamer battling hard for second. The competition was fierce up front. Those four jockeyed for position lap after lap with Shaun Scheel lurking in 5th. Erickson would work his way past Reamer on lap 39, and make quick work of Gasrude one lap later. Reamer would follow Erickson’s. As Erickson and Reamer were jousting for the top spot, rivals Grueneberg and Scheel were getting reaquainted with each other for 3rd. Reamer would set up Erickson perfectly to draw himself even with the five time champion. Erickson would catch a huge break. Just as Reamer was about to clear the former champ for the lead, the yellow flag would make another appearance. The yellow was for an incident involving Gasrude and Osborne. The last restart of the Serenity Concepts 50 would see Erickson pull away from Reamer and cruise to victory. Reamer settled for second, followed by Grueneberg, Shaun Scheel, and Shane Radtke Jr.

Sportsman

The Lilly Auto Care Center Sportsman would see Mike Lambert claim top honors. The start saw Lambert wrestle the lead away from Charles Vian Jr. Lambert loved seeing the intense action in his rear view mirror. The caution flag would fly on lap four when Kody Hubred and Robert Hansberry Jr. had contact which sent Jr. facing the wrong direction. Hubred was unable to continue. The field tightened and Lambert took the lead again. John Ovadal Jr. would make his way up to second as the bumping and banging was hot and heavy deeper in the field. Ovadal stalked Lambert lap after lap, trying to rattle him. Lambert remained poised and was up for the challenge. As those two were settling things up front, Evan Leahy and Tytus Helgestad were duking it out for third. When it was all said and done, Lambert remained in the top spot. He was followed by Ovadal, Leahy, Helgestad, and the new track record holder, Nick Bruley.

Hobby Stocks

Scott Tiedt would power by rookie Kaeden Wangsness to get The Gridline Landscape and Tree Company Hobby Stock feature started. It didn’t take long to see three wide racing. Tony Ciano started the aggressive moves and the rest of the field followed suit. Ciano would battle Braeden Yelland and Jim Tate Jr. For second. That battle would be put on hold for a spun out Steve Dobbratz. Tiedt and Ciano would pace the field back to green. Ciano was eventually able to work his way by Tiedt, bringing young Avery Linnerud with him. As those two battled to front, there was a gaggle of machines vying for the third spot. When the dust settled, Ciano crossed the line first. Then it was Linnerud, Robbie Rucks, Tate Jr., and Chester Williams. Ciano wouldn’t pass post race inspection. Avery Linnerud was declared the winner.

International

Two of our female rookie contenders would see the green flag first in The Wolff Pack Apparel and Promotions International Division. Amanda Bohn would get the best of Anna Hatch on the start. The field was anxious. Lap one would already produce three wide racing throughout the field. Mark Dewey muscled his way through the field, claiming the lead on lap five. Jason Uttech, the afternoon’s quick qualifier was hot on his heels. The pulse pounding mayhem would be halted later that lap as Bohn and Tim Higgins got tangled and collected Carson Strese. Dewey and Uttech would start side by side, with Mark English and Blake Nottestad hovering in the second row. Uttech would work his way to the lead as Merek Pankow was working his way past English for fourth. Dewey would have mechanical issues with five laps to go, resulting in a DNF. Uttech would hold on for the win, followed by Nottestad, Pankow, English, and David Russell Jr.

Bandits

The P.J.’s Painting Bandits were paced by Scott Barlass and Josh Lenz. Barlass would lead lap one. That lead was short lived. Nick Newton would flex his muscle and take that lead over on lap two. Newton was immediately challenged by Trent Rueth. Fluid on the track would throw a wrinkle into the action. After the clean up, Newton and Rueth were side by side. Newton edged ahead of Rueth for the lead. You could put a blanket over the top 7 cars at the halfway point. Chris Gottschalk would work his way to third with five laps to go and second one lap later. Gottschalk was on the move and would narrowly beat Newton to the line in a phenomenonal race. Third place went to Rueth. Nick Schmidt and fast qualifier Tom Schuette would round out the top five.
