Schuyler Seizes B&M Electric Feature

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, June 4, 2016)   Jefferson’s Thrillin’ Dylan Schuyler took the early lead of the B&M Electric 50 lap Late Model main event and hung on to claim the win on Saturday night at Jefferson Speedway.

Schuyler and Trent Erdman brought the field to the drop of the green flag as they battled side by side for control. Finally on lap five, Schuyler slid out into sole possession of the lead with Erdman falling back to second and Kyle Smith running in third. After a caution on lap eight, the leaders lined up single file and began to tick the laps away. On lap 24, Stephen Scheel got very loose on the front stretch and slid through the infield grass and back out again in turn one spinning to force the second caution of the race. As racing resumed, John Ovadal began to challenge Smith for the third position with Schuyler still showing the way in front of Erdman. Contact between Smith and Ovadal on lap 27 allowed Dale Nottestad to fire past both drivers into third. Nottestad began to run down the duo at the front, catching Erdman on lap 42. Nottestad powered past Erdman with seven laps to go and began to reel in Schuyler on the point. Nottestad caught the leader as they raced one final time around Wisconsin’s Action Track. But Schuyler held off Nottestad’s advances to see the checkers first and score the win. Nottestad was second with Erdman, Ovadal and Michael Grueneberg rounding out the top five.

Tony Ciano of Janesville picked up the win in the 30 lap Sportsman feature event. Josh Madell grabbed the lead from the pole on lap one. A three wide fight for second ensued between Ciano, Jim Taylor and Dan Schmidt. Ciano and Schmidt emerged wheel to wheel on lap two with Ciano gaining control of the position on lap three. Ciano began to close in on the early leader, Madell. Madell kept Ciano at bay while Chris Chenoweth made his way up to third by lap 13. Ciano once again zeroed in on Madell at the front, this time drawing even with the leader on lap 19. As they raced for control, Chenoweth joined the battle at the front. On lap 23, Madell got loose exiting turn two allowing Ciano to fire into the lead with Chenoweth in tow for second. Ciano ran the remainder of the race unchallenged as he claimed the win. Chenoweth was second followed by Madell, Bobby Selsing and Jay Kalbus.

Jamie Kohn of Madison scored his first career International feature win by claiming the 20 lap main event. Joe Cross led early from the front row with Josh Marx up to second. On lap two, Marx peeked under Cross while Kohn and Merek Pankow raced door to door for third. Marx began to gain the advantage over Cross when Kohn joined the battle on lap four. Kohn motored into the lead a lap later while Marx and Neil Higgins began to fight for the second spot. On lap seven Higgins moved into second with Mike Lambert in his tracks for third. Lambert began to challenge Higgins for the second position with Seth Reamer now watching from fourth. While Higgins and Lambert fought for second, Higgins got loose allowing Reamer to slip past both drivers. But Kohn was already on his way to the checkers to pick up the win. Reamer finished second followed by Higgins, Lambert and Marx.

In Hobby Stock action, it was Waterloo’s Dustin Ward getting to the front of the field and driving away with the victory. After a caution on the opening lap, it was Jeff LeFave and Terry Ciano leading the pack to green. LeFave led lap one with Ciano still to his outside. But LeFave cleared for the top spot on lap two while Dustin Ward shot to the outside of Ciano looking for second. Ward charged past Ciano and alongside LeFave to lead lap number four. Following a caution for debris, Ward restarted as the leader and immediately began to check out from the field. Ciano moved by LeFave on lap five for second with Chester Williams and Cody Buchs in tow for third and fourth respectively. Williams slipped past Ciano on lap nine bringing Buchs along for third. Ward’s lead grew larger while Williams and Buchs battled for second. Ward cruised to the checkers to score the win with Williams nipping Buchs at the line for second. Brandon Angileri was fourth followed by Ciano in fifth.

Fort Atkinson’s Chris Gottschalk got the win in the 15 lap Road Warrior feature event. Mark Dewey led lap one with Mike Storkson up to second. Storkson made his move on Dewey as the caution waved on lap two. The duo led the field back to green with Storkson taking the brief lead and Bill Sweeney up to second. Sweeney quickly moved past Storkson for the top spot on lap three with Gottschalk in his tracks. On lap five, Gottschalk pulled alongside Sweeney through turns one and two. After a brief battle, Gottschalk moved out front with Sweeney back to second. Sweeney made one attempt to reclaim the top spot, but Gottschalk kept him at bay to cross the stripe first for the win. Sweeney was second followed by Bill Reynolds, Kenny Storkson and Mike Storkson.

Whitewater’s Chad Olds won his second Bandit feature in as many weeks after claiming the 15 lap affair. Michelle Heimann and DJ Hill led the field to green with Heimann taking the early lead on lap one. Olds went to high side as he did one week ago to charge into the top five. Olds was outside Hill for second by lap four. Olds claimed the position on lap five and drew even with Heimann for the lead on lap seven. Olds cleared for the lead a lap later and quickly began to drive away from the pack. Jeremy Bredeson made a late race charge up to second, but Olds was already well on his way to the checkers for the win. Bredeson finished second with Heimann, Ryan Ostenson and Bill Kohn completing the top five.

Next Saturday, June 11, is the National Ethanol Short Track Racing Championships at Jefferson Speedway. The American Ethanol Super Truck Series will be on hand racing in twin 35 lap feature events.
