Schuyler Seizes O’Reilly Auto Parts 50

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, June 15, 2013) “Thrillin” Dylan Schuyler of Jefferson scored his first feature victory of the season on Saturday night at Jefferson Speedway. Schuyler made the winning pass just after the halfway point of the O’Reilly Auto Parts 50 lap Late Model main event en route to picking up the trophy.

Kyle Smith and Kyle Taylor led the field to green with Smith taking the early lead on lap one. Brandon Pendleton followed into second as Taylor slipped back into the pack. On lap two, Pendleton made his move under Smith to grab control of the top spot with Stephen Scheel following into second. The sole caution of the event appeared on lap eight when Smith and Tyler Peterson made contact on the front stretch. Pendleton restarted as the leader with Scheel in second and Schuyler up to third. On lap 12, Schuyler charged under Scheel looking for second. A lap later, Schuyler was clear for the runner up position as he pulled up behind Pendleton. Schuyler began to apply pressure on the low side of the leader on lap 22 with Pendleton holding him off momentarily. But on lap 29, Schuyler got a good run, drawing even with Pendleton. A lap later, Schuyler cleared for the lead as they exited turn four. Schuyler began to stretch his advantage while Dale Nottestad moved up to challenge Pendleton for the second spot. Nottestad got by Pendleton for second on lap 36 with Kyle Jarlsberg in tow for third. Nottestad and Jarlsberg began a battle for second allowing Schuyler to slip away further at the front. Jarlsberg eventually got by Nottestad for second, but Schuyler was already well on his way to picking up the checkers and the win. Jarlsberg finished second followed by Nottestad, Pendleton and Zack Riddle.

Mark Deporter of Fort Atkinson got the front of the 25 lap Sportsman feature and held on to get the victory. Jason Kubicz led lap one before the first of two cautions slowed the pace. Kubicz restarted on the point with JC Stanelle in second and Terry Wangsness running third. As racing resumed, Wangsness went to work on Stanelle, getting by for second on lap seven. Deporter and Jim Tate Jr followed in his tracks as they moved up to second and third respectively. Deporter began peeking to the low side of the new leader on lap 13, pulling alongside Wangsness a lap later with Tate watching from third. Deporter began to chip away at Wangsness’ advantage lap after lap until clearing for the top spot on lap 18. Tate followed under Wangsness for second as he looked ahead to the new leader, Deporter. Deporter managed to keep Tate in his rear view mirror until the final caution on lap 23 set up a green-white-checkered finish. As the leaders saw the green flag once again, Tate made his bid for the top spot. Tate pulled alongside Deporter as they raced past the white flag to begin the final circuit. But Deporter maintained his advantage down the backstretch one final time and held it through the checkers to get the win. Tate settled for second followed by Steven Sauer, Wangsness and Jason Thoma.

Chris Chenoweth of Watertown picked up his second consecutive feature win by claiming the 20 lap International main event. Casey Strese grabbed the initial lead on lap one from the front row with Seth Reamer up to second and Mike Lambert in third. On lap three, Reamer dropped to the low side of the speedway and pulled alongside Strese looking to lead. Reamer cleared for the top spot on lap five bringing Lambert along for second and Chenoweth in third. Lambert began to pressure Reamer on the point, driving up next to the leader on lap 12. But a lap later, the duo made contact in turns one and two causing both to slow. Reamer recovered as Lambert was forced to retire from the event. Chenoweth used the melee to charge up beside Reamer as they raced side by side for the lead. Chenoweth cleared for the top spot with five laps to go and held off Reamer to get the win. Reamer was second with Strese, Dan Birkett and Joe Cross rounding out the top five.

Bobby Selsing Jr of Edgerton claimed his third straight Hobby Stock main event after winning the rain shortened 20 lap feature. Anthony Lloyd led early from the pole with Phil Wuesthoff running second. Wuesthoff made his move to the front on lap three, clearing through turns one and two as Tony Ciano and Selsing entered the top five. Ciano and Selsing drove side by side into third and fourth with Wuesthoff still leading and Lloyd running second. Selsing claimed sole possession of the third spot just before the caution waved on lap nine for a spinning Kale Peterman. As racing resumed, Selsing motored under Lloyd to claim second and continued forward alongside Wuesthoff. Selsing cleared for the lead on lap 12 as Ciano tried to mirror his every move. Ciano made his way to the second spot by Selsing was already well out front. Raindrops began to fall on lap 20 and the race was forced to be shortened with Selsing the winner. Ciano finished second followed by Wuesthoff, Dustin Ward and Lloyd.

In Road Warrior action, Bill Sweeney of Edgerton charged to the front of the field and drove away to win the 20 lap feature event. Rodger Stephenson led lap one from the pole with Bill Reynolds claiming second on lap two. Reynolds continued forward alongside Stephenson as he drove by for the lead on lap three. Chris Gottschalk and Sweeney pulled up behind Stephenson as the trio battle for the second spot while Reynolds opened up a healthy lead. After a three wide fight, Sweeney emerged with the second spot while Gottschalk stayed in his tracks for third. Sweeney began to run down Reynolds at the front, catching him on lap 11. Sweeney drove under Reynolds, stealing the lead a lap later. Reynolds tried to hold off Gottschalk for second allowing Sweeney to pull away from the pack. At the checkers, it was Sweeney for the win followed by Reynolds, Tadd Douglas, Gottschalk and Keith Erickson.

Oak Creek’s Nick Schmidt claimed victory in the 15 lap Bandit feature event. Noah Pankow and Tyler Deporter paced the field to green with Pankow leading lap one and Schmidt pulling into second. Schmidt drove to the outside of Pankow on lap three as they raced side by side for the lead. Devon Dixon and Josh Marx watched from behind as they battled for the third spot. On lap five, Schmidt claimed the point with Dixon following into second and Marx into third. The top three broke away from the rest of the field as they raced single file. Derek Dixon joined the leaders with three laps to go, but Schmidt stayed out front to cross the stripe first. Devon Dixon was second followed by Derek Dixon, Marx and Pankow.
