by Larry & Jeanne Starr

August 12, 2006; Jefferson WI — Luke Westenberg of Watertown led every lap of the “Watertown Bowl 50” Late Model feature, taking home top honors. Starting inside row 2, Westenberg claimed the lead on the first lap and never looked back, guiding the field to the checkers..

John Ovadal Jr moved up to the second spot on lap 17, looking a quarter lap ahead to Westenberg. Ovadal closed with Westenberg turning up the pressure by lap 40, but was never able to find the opening he needed. In a last ditch effort, coming off turn 4 to the checkers, Ovadal spun the car, dropping to the rear of the field. Westenberg was first at the checkers followed by Kyle Jarlsberg, Doug Hahn, Andy Wendt and Jasper Gronert.

In Sportsman action Jay Kalbus of Oconomowoc claimed top honors in the 30 lap feature. Starting outside row 6, Kalbus headed toward the front as Tom Rents drove to the early lead. Caution cam on lap 29, for a spin in turn 1, setting up a Green-White-Checkered finish. At the green Kalbus dove to the inside, bouncing past Riedner as they came off the second turn. At the stripe it was Kalbus for the win followed by Riedner, Helmer, Dave Oswald and Dan Schmidt.

In International action Ashley Smith of Lake Mills notched her first feature win, in the 20 lap main event. Starting inside row 2, Smith claimed the lead on lap 1 an never looked back, showing the way to the checkers. Chris Gottschalk caught Smith by lap 16, launching a bid for the lead. Smith was up to the challenge, holding Gottschalk to 2nd. At the stripe it was Smith for the win followed by Gottschalk, Mike Winters, Chris Chenoweth and Brandon Riedner.

In Hobby Stock action Steven Sauer of Waterloo claimed top honors in the 25 lap feature. Starting from outside row 1 Sauer grabbed the early lead, guiding the way from there to the checkers. Larry Moen had a strong challenge going, on lap 23, only to have it cut short by the caution flag, for a spin in turn 2. On the restart it was Sauer heading first to the checkers, followed by Moen, Tim Lange, Jim Robinson and Pete Elgas.

In Bandit Action Bobby Selsing Jr of Fort Atkinson earned victory in the 20 lap feature. Starting 12, Selsing headed to ward the point, as Ryan Granzow took the early lead. Caution came on lap 3, when Sean Watters and Steven Scheel tangled in the 3rd turn, collecting a number of cars. Selsing came through the melee untouched, to restart in the 3rd spot. As the field went green Selsing motored past Chad Olds for 2nd on lap 4 and claimed the top spot, from Granzow on lap 5. At the stripe it was Selsing for the win followed by Rodney Mundt, Granzow, Kyle Watters and Tim Bristol.
