September 8, 2007; Jefferson WI — Steve Dobbratz of Rio claimed top honors in the “Havill-Spoerl Season Championship” 50 lap Late Model feature. Starting outside row 7 Dobbratz started his drive to the front as Kyle Taylor drove to the early lead.
Taylor led the way for 3 laps, before surrendering the point to Scott Lindsay. The first caution came on lap 25, when a car hit the turn 1 wall. Lindsay led the restart with Dobbratz up to the 9th spot, just ahead of Doug Hahn. Dobbratz made his way to 6th, by lap 28, with Hahn close behind.
Dobbratz moved under Jerry Eckhardt, for 3rd on lap 34 and Noel Ramge, for 2nd, on lap 37. A crash, in turn 4, brought the final caution on lap 42. Lindsay led the restart with Dobbratz second and Hahn up to 4th. Dobbratz moved to the inside making his bid for the lead. Lindsay fought hard, on the outside, holding off Dobbratz until lap 47. Pulling ahead, with 3 laps to go, Dobbratz was first at the stripe, followed by Lindsay, Ramge, Hahn and John Ovadal.
Doug Hahn of Whitewater had a strong point lead, coming into the night and his 4th place finish secured the 2007 track championship, in the Late Model division.
In Sportsman division action, rookie driver, Brady Lilly of Milton notched his first feature win in the 40 lap main event. Starting outside row 3 Lilly headed toward the point as Ryan Oldenhoff grabbed the early lead. Oldenhoff led the way for 17 laps, as Lilly made his way to the front, claiming the 2nd spot on lap 12. Moving to the inside on lap 16, Lilly claimed the point on lap 18, showing the way from there to the checkered flag. Scott “Chico” Riedner motored under Oldenhoff, for 2nd, on lap 23, looking ahead to Lilly.
Caution came on lap 30, when a pair of cars tangled in turn 2. Lilly led the restart with Riedner and Jay Kalbus right on his tail. The yellow waived again, on lap 36, with Kalbus and Tom Reents tangled in the 2nd turn. Lilly led the restart, with Riedner still in 2nd and Dave Oswald up to the 3rd spot. Over the closing laps Lilly held off Riedner’s charge. At the stripe it was Lilly for the win followed by Riedner, Oswald, Oldenhoff and R.C. Van Ransull.
Scott “Chico” Riedner of Waunakee came into the night with a commanding point lead and captured the 2007 championship in the Sportsman division, for the second year in a row.
In Hobby Stock action Larry Moen of Madison claimed victory in the 35 lap Championship feature. Starting outside row 7 Moen headed toward the front as Nick Newton claimed the early lead. Newton was relieved at the point, by Roger Stephenson, on the 3rd circuit. Caution came on lap 7 for a spin in turn 2. Stephenson led the restart with Moen up to the 3rd spot. Moen motored under Bobby Selsing, for 2nd, on lap 10, setting his sights on Stephenson.
Oil on the track, and a spin, brought another yellow flag, on lap 12. Stephenson led the restart with Moen close behind. Moving to the inside on lap 13, Moen made the winning pass on lap 14. Jim Tate Jr., the point leader, made his way to 2nd, on lap 21, looking ahead to Moen, but his quest ended, in a spin, on lap 26. At the stripe it was Moen for the win followed by Selsing, Stephenson, Pete Elgas and Mike Meyers.
Jim Tate Jr. of Watertown, held enough point to secure the 2007 Hobby Stock championship.
In International action Ken Au Jefferson won the 30 lap main event. Starting 13th in the field, Au started his way to the front as the front of the field seemed determined to make the first lap last all night! After a couple unsuccessful attempts to start the race, Peter Shelly led the first lap, only to lose the point to Pete Seitz on the second circuit. Seitz lost the point to Chris Gottschalk on lap 4, with Au close behind for 2nd.
Gottschalk showed the way for 18 laps, before being knocked out of the race by a lapped car, on lap 22, bringing out the yellow flag, and handing the lead to Au. Au led the restart with Mark English running 2nd. English move to the inside on lap 23, challenging for the lead. Au proved up to the challenge as the pair raced side-by-side all the way to the checkered flag. At the strip it was Au by inches over English followed by Kyle Smith, Ashley Smith and Rodney Mundt.
Mark English of Janesville topped the championship points battle in the International class, landing the 2007 International championship.
In Bandit action Kyle Watters of Stoughton won the 30 lap feature. Starting inside row 7, Watters dashed toward the point as Dennis Johnson claimed the early lead. Johnson led the way for 16 laps, as Watters made his way to the front. Watters closed with Johnson on lap 11, making the winning pass on lap 17. As Watters claimed the point, Gary Stark made his way to 3rd. Stark motored past Johnson, for 2nd, on lap 26. The only caution of the race came on lap 27 for water on the track. Watters led the restart, with 4 lapped cars between him and Stark. At the finish it was Watters for the win followed by Stark, Johnson, Sean Watters and Stephen Scheel.
